Hallway

People walk places here.

Kylah nervously stepped into the hallway.
She glanced at the slip of paper the secretary had given her.

She sighed and looked around the hallway. It was deserted. There was the sound of laughter floating down the hallway but then it was gone.

Kylah rolled her eyes and wandered down the hall.

Brett walked down the hall, killing time before his next class. There was a girl he didn't recognize in front of him. "Hi." he said.

Kylah turned around her blonde hair waving behind her.

She tugged her black dress down over her black faded stockings .

"Hi." she murmured and brushed back her hair with her gloved hands.

She shifted her weight onto her right leg. Her heels were killing her. And she also knew she looked quite strange. But it was her own style that no one would steal.

He looked at her, she was dressed...interestingly. "I'm Brett."

Kylah nodded "My outfit. I know. I'm Kylah."

He laughed. "I like it. Different."

"Thanks. I tend to get a lot of rude remarks. But. No one will steal it. It's a plus"

Brett laughed again. "True."

"So. How big is this school?" She asked as they passed another classroom. She glanced down at her map.

He shrugged. "It's pretty small, actually. Everyone knows everyone kind of place."

"Gross. This place sucks. At my old school there was 720 kids in my grade alone." Kylah muttered and kicked a piece of trash down the hall.

"Wow. That's a huge school. I can see why you're not so happy about being here."

Kylah shrugged "I guess. Maybe it'll be better here because I may have a friend. There I didn't. I was a loner child."

"That's never enjoyable." He said. "Well, here should be better. You'll know everyone. They'll make sure of it. People are pretty nice...mostly."

"Mostly?" Kylah wondered and turned her eyes to him.

"Well all schools have some people that are just nasty and mean, don't they?"

Kylah smiled "Yes. I suppose. But. Most? A lot are rude?"

He shook his head. "No, I said that most people were pretty nice."

"Oh. Sorry." Kylah laughed "Some days I think I have hearing problems."

Brett laughed. "Well, the point is that you shouldn't have trouble making friends here."

Kylah shook her head "Oh yes I will." She pointed to her outfit "I will not be accepted in this. Trust me."

He laughed. "Sure you will. I've accepted you, haven't I?"

Kylah glanced at him "Yeah. Sure. But you'll end up leaving me."

He frowned. "What makes you say that? And what makes you so quick to judge people in general?"
